The Karangahake Gorge is a delightful walk down memory lane that is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. There are many tracks to choose from, with the main track being approximately 4.5 km long but there are shorter and easier tracks too.
WALKING:

You will enjoy the magnificent beauty of the area, from native bush and steep valleys to the gushing river below.
One of the walkways follows the 1900’s railway and includes a one km long brick tunnel, railway and swing bridges, many old mining relics and spectacular scenery. It is well worth the effort.

Alternatively, you could just relax and enjoy the little cafés and wineries in the Karangahake village.

CYCLING:

The famous cycleway starts at Waihi Goldfield Railway station .You can bike from Waihi to Paeroa through the beautiful Karanghake Gorge following the river. It even goes through a tunnel and then on to either Te Aroha or Thames if you like.

Bikes are available for hire from Waihi Bicycle shop -25 Seddon St, Waihi. An easy ride to the start of the track.
